Frequently Asked Questions

What is cycle syncing? Cycle syncing is the practice of adjusting food, movement, and lifestyle habits to match the natural hormonal shifts that occur throughout your menstrual cycle. Instead of doing the same thing every day, HerBalance helps you support your body differently during each phase, so you can improve energy, hormone balance, and metabolic health over time.

I no longer have a menstrual cycle. Is HerBalance still for me? Yes. Even if you no longer have a menstrual cycle due to menopause, a hysterectomy, birth control, or irregular cycles, HerBalance can still support you. The app is designed around the body’s natural hormonal rhythms, which continue to influence energy, metabolism, stress response, and nutrition needs throughout the month. If you are no longer cycling, you can follow Lunar Cycle, which guides you through the four HerBalance phases (Root, Bloom, Shine, and Harvest) on a simple monthly rhythm inspired by the natural lunar cycle. This allows you to still benefit from: Phase-based nutrition guidance Exercise recommendations that align with energy patterns Lifestyle and hormone support tips Balanced meal ideas designed to support metabolism, cortisol, and insulin health Many women find this rhythm especially helpful during perimenopause and postmenopause, when supporting stress, metabolism, and overall hormonal balance becomes even more important. HerBalance is designed to meet you where your body is, whether you are cycling or not.

Why sync my cycle to the moon if I’m not getting a period? When cycle data isn’t available, syncing to the lunar cycle provides a consistent rhythm for planning nourishment, movement, and rest. This approach helps regulate circadian and hormonal patterns, offering structure without forcing artificial timelines.

Is HerBalance a weight loss app? HerBalance is not designed to be a traditional weight loss app. It is a women’s hormone and lifestyle support app that helps you align nutrition, movement, and daily habits with your body’s natural hormonal rhythms. Many women may experience fat loss while using HerBalance because the app focuses on habits that naturally support a healthy metabolism, including balanced meals, adequate protein and fiber, strength training, stress management, and phase-based lifestyle guidance. However, the primary goal of HerBalance is to help you: Support hormone balance Improve energy and mood throughout the month Stabilize blood sugar and cravings Build sustainable nutrition and movement habits Support overall metabolic and long term health For some women this may lead to weight loss, while others may notice improvements in energy, digestion, sleep, or hormonal symptoms first. HerBalance is designed to support your body’s overall health and rhythm. Weight loss, when it occurs, is often a natural result of supporting your metabolism and hormones in a more balanced way.

Why isn’t my weight changing, or why is it fluctuating while using HerBalance? Weight fluctuations are completely normal, especially for women. Hormones naturally influence water retention, digestion, inflammation, and metabolism throughout the month, which can cause the scale to move up or down even when you are doing everything right. HerBalance is designed to support your body’s natural rhythms rather than force rapid weight loss. During certain phases, particularly the Harvest and Root phases, it is common to experience temporary increases in water weight, cravings, or slower progress on the scale. This does not mean your body is not responding. Several factors can also affect weight changes, including: Hormonal shifts throughout the cycle Water retention and inflammation Stress and cortisol levels Sleep quality Muscle gain from strength training Changes in digestion or fiber intake Because of these natural variables, the scale is not always the best indicator of progress. Many women notice improvements in other areas first, such as better energy, improved digestion, reduced cravings, better sleep, and more consistent workouts. HerBalance focuses on building sustainable habits that support metabolism, hormone balance, and long term health. Weight loss often becomes more consistent once the body feels supported and regulated rather than stressed or restricted.

Should I adjust my calories or macros if I want to lose weight? Possibly. If your goal is fat loss and your weight has not changed for several weeks, adjusting your calorie intake or macros may help. HerBalance recommends using a trusted calculator, such as TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) calculator to help estimate how many calories your body needs each day based on your age, height, weight, and activity level. This estimate helps determine whether you are eating in a calorie deficit, which is typically required for fat loss. We recommend choosing "cutting" with a 30/35/35 macro balance to provide a supportive starting point for fat loss while prioritizing hormone health. Macros also play an important role. Getting enough protein, healthy fats, and fiber-rich carbohydrates helps support metabolism, hormone balance, and satiety while working toward weight loss. Inside the app, your macro targets are designed to help you: Maintain stable energy throughout the day Support muscle maintenance and strength training Reduce large blood sugar swings Promote sustainable fat loss rather than extreme restriction If progress stalls, small adjustments to calories or macro ratios can sometimes help restart progress. However, it is important not to cut calories too aggressively (less than 1500), as this can increase stress hormones and slow metabolism over time. HerBalance is designed to support sustainable, hormone-friendly weight loss, which often focuses on consistency, balanced nutrition, movement, and stress management rather than rapid dieting.

What if my macro targets from a TDEE calculator or another calculator is lower than what HerBalance recommends? TDEE calculators are helpful starting points, but they are just estimates and often suggest calories that are too low, especially for women dealing with hormone imbalance, stress, or a slower metabolism. At HerBalance, we prioritize supporting your metabolism, hormones, and long term results over aggressive calorie restriction. If your calculated calories fall below our recommended minimums, we do not suggest dropping lower just for faster weight loss. Eating too little can: • Slow your metabolism • Increase cortisol • Make fat loss harder over time • Lead to muscle loss and fatigue Instead, we focus on giving your body enough fuel to function properly while supporting fat loss through: • High protein meals • Balanced fats for hormone health • Blood sugar stability • Strength training and daily movement For most women, staying around or above 1500 calories while hitting your protein, fat, and fiber targets leads to more sustainable and effective results. If your needs are truly lower due to body size or other factors, adjustments can be made, but extreme calorie restriction is not the goal of this app. We highly recommend discussing with your doctor before dropping below our recommended targets. HerBalance is designed to help your body work better, not eat less at all costs.

I am taking a GLP-1 medication or hormone therapy. Can I still use HerBalance? Yes. You can still use HerBalance if you are taking GLP-1 medications, hormone therapy, or other prescribed treatments. HerBalance is designed to support healthy lifestyle habits such as balanced nutrition, movement, sleep, and stress management. These habits can complement many medical treatments and help support overall metabolic and hormone health. For example, the app can help you: Build balanced meals that support stable energy and blood sugar Maintain adequate protein, fiber, and nutrient intake Align workouts with your energy patterns Support healthy routines for sleep, stress, and recovery If you are taking a GLP-1 medication, the nutrition guidance in the app may also help ensure you are getting enough protein and nutrients while your appetite is reduced. HerBalance is not intended to replace medical advice or treatment. If you are taking prescription medications or hormone therapy, it is always best to follow your healthcare provider’s guidance and use the app as a supportive lifestyle tool alongside your care plan.

Do I need to track everything for this to work? No. Tracking is optional. HerBalance is designed to be supportive—not overwhelming. You choose how much structure you want.
